On the morning of the nationals we were really excited. We left school in the morning and drove to port loaise. There we did not know where to go which made me even more nervous. Mrs. Hennessey went off to ask where we have to go and so on while Ted and Alejandro helped a team to set up there antenna.
Soon after we got a safety lecture and we measured and weighed all our cans we started with the quadcopter launches. We were number three. Because it was very windy the quadcopter only went up to a height of about 70 meters. Therefore the temperature and humidity change was not that big. After a small break and again a security check we started the rocket launches. We were seven teams in the competition and only six spaces in the rocket. Our antenna broke so William, ourteam leader, decided to drop out and go with the second launch to have time to fix the antenna. This was done very quickly and soon we were able to launch our can with it´s private rocket launch. When all the cansats were collected and all the pictures were taken we headed to the hotel to look at our data and prepare the presentation. In the evening we had a big dinner with two interesting talks. We had to present our results at the next morning so some of us did not had that much sleep. During our presentation we ran out of time in the end but everything else worked as planned. After another very long and nerve wracking time of waiting they announced St. Columba´s College as the National Cansat winners. That means that we will compete in germany against many other european countries in summer. We are really looking forward to Bremen and hope that we are going to impress the judges with all the new features we are planning to do. Canny Potter the intrepid Cansat has had a social media upgrade to tie in with his mission as an atmospheric and planetary probe.
From the 1st-8th April a number of the team went on a ski tip to the Dolomites in Italy. With the National competition less than a month away, Easter holidays (everyone aboard for the two weeks) This trip was a great occasion to bring canny to do some calibrations, test our new sensors and see how he coped with the Altitude.
